Alsop (Silverthorne), Eleanor Jean -
Peacefully in her sleep at Ross Memorial Hospital in
Lindsay on June 11th 2008, in her 90th year. With great
sadness we announce the passing of a remarkable lady.
Eleanor was the eldest daughter of the late Kate and Bob
Wallace. She was the loving wife of Ken Alsop and the late
Edwin (Ed) Silverthorne. Dearly loved mother of Janice
Silverthorne-Finney (Bernard) of Lindsay, and Jennifer
Litton (Ken) of Grafton. Proud and cherished Gramma of Colin
and Allison Carlson and Wendell and Spencer Litton. Sister
of Albert Wallace (Mary) of Richmond Hill and the late Betty
Fraser (Chuck) of Peterborough; sister-in-law of Freda
Staples(Jack) of Iroquois Falls, Helen Alsop of Beaverton
and Jean (Ron) Shier of Sunderland.
Eleanor will be missed by her many nieces and nephews and
also her life-long dear friend Allison Shipton. Eleanor
began her stellar Secretarial career at Swift Canadian in
Toronto where she and Ed raised their two musical daughters
in Weston. She was very active in the Riverside U.C.W. for
25 years until they retired to the family property in
Bolsover. There, she continued to use her superior shorthand
skills in her association with both the Bolsover W.I. and
Bolsover Community Centre where she was Secretary. In
addition, Eleanor was a proud promoter of just causes for
her community and never shied away from challenges.
Her Irish heritage gave her a love of song and dance that
she passed on to her children. She will certainly miss
euchre and darts at the Bolsover Community Centre but will
be there in spirit.
The family wishes to thank the staff of the Access Centre
and also to the ICU staff at Ross Memorial Hospital.
