Obituary for Dale Arne HAKONSON

HAKONSON: Dale A. – it is with great sadness that the family of Dale A. Hakonson announces his passing at his residence in Oshawa ON on Sunday September 13, 2020. Youngest child of Arne (deceased 2003) and Audrey Hakonson formerly of Beaverton, now of Uxbridge. Survived by his brother Ed (Hiedi) Hakonson of Stouffville, sisters Debby (Rainer) Zeitner of Uxbridge and Karen Hakonson of Beaverton and remember by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and friends. Remembered by his stepsons, James (Ghen) Brown of Deep River, ON and Dustin (Allysa) Brown of |Toronto. Also his granddaughter, Olivia. Dale was born in Scarborough ON on June 17, 1966 with a severe form of Spina Bifida and spent much of his first year of life at the Hospital for |Sick Children, growing up in rural Markham and then Beaverton, attending Thorah Central Public School and Brock High. As a teenager, Dale was often seen wheeling around on the streets of Beaverton in his wheelchair, socializing with friends and even calling bingo at the Legion. He often made the annual trip to the Beaverton Fall Fair to greet old friends and reminisce. In recent years, while living in Oshawa, Dale was able to attend and participate in many activities at the Abilities Centre in Whitby and enjoy a special celebration of his 50th birthday at the Centre in 2016. Due to COVID19, there will be a private family memorial celebration in the near future. If so desired, memorial donations in memory of Dale to the Hospital for Sick Children or the Abilities Centre, Whitby may be made through the Mangan Funeral Home, Beaverton.
