Obituary for David Edward "Ted" McCollum

David Edward (Ted) McCollum

1943-2021

Peacefully, after a very brief battle with cancer, Ted McCollum passed away on April 25, 2021 in his 78th year, leaving behind his beloved wife of 57 years, Sharon, his children, Tanja McCollum-Jarvis (Dan), OPP Insp. (ret) Angie McCollum (Mark Kuntz) and Rev. Canon Ted McCollum (Kimberley Reid), as well as his grandchildren, David (Aubrey), Andrew, Evienne Jarvis, Teddy McCollum-Kuntz, Martha (Ray Michaelis), and Claire McCollum, and his great-grandchildren Aria Jarvis, Charles Michaelis and Alex Seagrave. Raised by his grandmother, Kathleen Sibbald Lloyd, he also leaves behind his sister Patty Ito (Bill), sister-in-law Alice Baker, cousins, nieces and nephews. Having grown up in Woodstock and Cobourg, Ted became a successful businessman attaining the position of Vice President Finance and Administration NCR Canada and then President of Dexter-Lawson Manufacturing. In addition to his busy work schedule, he led by example while advocating for community engagement and became part of the broader community through his work with the Ontario Chamber of Commerce (President), Rotary Club of Galt, Cambridge and District Humane Society (Treasurer), Friends of the OPP Museum (Treasurer) and Junior Achievers in Peel Region. Always one to enjoy the company of others, Ted was usually at the forefront wherever there was laughter and loved to be with others, enjoying the company around him and a game of golf whenever he could hit the links. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren and all that they had accomplished but didn’t seem to realize that it was his guidance and support that allowed them to challenge themselves and achieve what they put their mind to. A private family service will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Cambridge and District Humane Society in Ted’s memory.
