Obituary for Elizabeth Perry (Jones)
PERRY, ELIZABETH (nee JONES)
It is with profound sadness that we announce that our beloved, Elizabeth Perry (nee Jones) passed away gracefully on July 29, 2023, at the Oak Ridges Hospice in Port Perry at the age of 82. Elizabeth is predeceased by her parents Hugh and Annie Jones (nee Roberts) and her brother Glyn Jones.
Elizabeth, known as Liz, to most and Betty to her Welsh family, was the devoted wife of Ray Perry for almost 60 years. They built their lovely home in Greenbank in 1968 and it remains the family home to this day.
Liz will lovingly be remembered by her daughter Lana (Robert Grieve) and son Rick (Gladys). She was the doting Nain and Hen Nain to Lana’s children Clinton (Becca) and their daughter, Dylan; Evan (Ashley); and Lauren (Zac). Liz was a very special grandma to Rick and Glady’s son Alain, their crazy little Morkie, Razor and Rick’s daughter Avery.
Liz will be deeply missed by her brothers Gwynfor (Georgina), David (Marilyn) and Meirion (Bob), many nieces and nephews and other family members in Wales and Canada.
Liz’s family travelled by ship from Wales to Timmins in 1938 where she was born. In 1948, the family settled on a small sheep farm on the outskirts of Beaverton, Ontario. Liz’s family were members of the Beaverton community for 75 years.
Liz attended teachers’ college and taught students from Gr. 1-8 for many years. She also worked in retail for 12 years at Luke’s Country Store in Port Perry. When Liz retired from Luke’s, she volunteered with Chances Are in Uxbridge for over 30 years to raise funds for the Uxbridge Cottage Hospital.
Ray has many treasured memories of his Lizzie. One of their favourite treats was enjoying a $2 sundae at McDonald’s. They attended many concerts, seeing legends such as Conway Twitty, George Jones, and Stompin’ Tom. They shared the love of live theatre and they travelled regularly together, often taking their grandchildren on their adventures. Their marriage of almost 60 years even survived working together for many years in quality control for the automotive industry.
Liz will fondly be remembered by her family, friends, and community as the epitome of a lady. She was always graciously willing to lend a hand, looking like a million bucks while doing so.
A very special thank you to Dr Hadden and the staff of Oak Ridges Hospice who cared for Liz like a member of their family during her short stay at the hospice.
At Liz’s request, there will be no service. We encourage all who knew and loved Liz to honour her by practicing acts of kindness to others every day. One of Liz’s favourite ways to spend time with people she cared about was to enjoy a meal together at a restaurant. May you celebrate Liz’s memory every time you do the same with your family and friends.
Liz will be laid to rest in the family plot at the Beaverton Stone Church Cemetery.
