Obituary for Freida Marjorie Haney (Smith)

Freida Marjorie Haney (Smith)

September 17, 1925 – March 3, 2024

Passed peacefully at Lakeview Manor, Beaverton on March 3, 2024. Freida was the beloved wife of the late Wilbert (Wib) Haney for over 50 years, and loving mother of the late Robert (Bob) Haney. Predeceased by her parents, Peter and Harriet Smith (Sheehy), and brothers, Orville (Isobel), Ivan (Glenna), and Stanley (Wilma). Much loved by daughter-in-law, Peggy, grandchildren, Aaron (Johanna), Meagan (Scott), Andrea, and Adam (Leanne), and great grandchildren, Jackson, Justine, Rian, Kai, Kaleb, Gavin, Alexander, and Liam. Admired by many nieces, nephews, and friends. Freida grew up on a farm in Thorah Township and moved to Beaverton to open her own hair and beauty salon when she was 20 years old. After marrying Wib, they later moved to Sunderland where they raised their son and immersed themselves in the community. She maintained her salon from their home, and also became a dedicated driver for Brock Community Care, a member of the United Church Women, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. During her 70 years of service with the Eastern Star, she held many roles including District Deputy Grand Matron. Freida loved to help and visit with others. She took delight in exchanging stories and having meals with family and friends. In her younger years, she loved to curl, play horseshoes, go to dances, quilt, bake pies, and sing in the church choir. As she got older, she journaled daily, loved to watch and/or hear about her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s past-times, and visit with her nieces, nephews, and old friends. She will be revered for her caring nature, wisdom, and sense of humour. Visitation will be held at St. Andrew's United Church, Sunderland on Friday March 8th from 11:15a.m. until time of funeral service at 1p.m. Order of the Eastern Star Service will be held from 11-11:15 a.m. Interment to follow at Sunderland Cemetery. If so desired memorial donations in memory of Freida to Brock Community Care or Sunderland UCW (by cheque) would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences are welcome at manganfuneralhome.com
