Obituary for Laurus George YAKE

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Laurus Yake, the #1 Toronto Maple Leafs fan, at home on Monday, September 14th, 2020 surrounded by his family and companion, Shiloh, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer.

Laurus is survived by his loving and devoted wife and best friend, Shirley who was our rock that remained by his side from sunrise to sunset. Laurus was a proud father and is survived by his 3 children Margaret, Brenda, and Jason. Adored grand-dad of Laurissa, Alexxes, Brook-Lynn, and Kylen and loving fur-father to his dog and companion, Shiloh. He will be forever missed and loved by his many sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends. Laurus will be lovingly remembered and missed by his "brothers" who brought him joy and laughter throughout the years and more importantly, throughout his illness with cancer.

Laurus was well known for his cowboy boots and love for hockey. More specifically, his lifelong commitment as a Toronto Maple Leafs fan. He inflicted his love for the sport and his favourite team on all who knew him and anyone with ears. He thoroughly enjoyed and looked forward to visits from his friends who would stop by to catch up on hockey highlights and playfully banter about everything and anything hockey. Laurus was gifted with a great sense of humour that kept us all on our toes. Time with him was filled with love, laughter, and witty comebacks always delivered at the right time. Laurus never missed a beat. It was a long and difficult journey, but he faced each day with a brave smile on his face and endless love in his heart. His positivity, bright spirit, and sense of humour was something he gracefully maintained until the very end.

Laurus was a bright light with a pure heart filled with unconditional love and affection. He loved life and had a firm appreciation for what was important – the simplicity of living life with those you love.

A special and heartfelt thank you to Dr. Isabel Li and nurse Margaret of RVH, Dr. Kim McIntosh, the LHIN, Bayshore, and Paramed for the outstanding care and compassion for Laurus and our family. There are no words to express our gratitude.

At the request of Laurus, cremation has taken place and there will be no service. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
