Obituary for Dr. Thomas Vincent Garry

“If tears could build a stairway, and memories a lane.
I would walk right up to Heaven and bring you back again.
No farewell words were spoken, No time to say ‘Goodbye’.
You were gone before I knew it, and only God knows why.” -Karen White

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Tom, husband, Dad & friend, at his home in Brechin, on June 15th 2022 after a brief, progressive illness, in his 89th year. Beloved husband to Eleanor, father to four loving children, Ian, Edward (June), Paul & Isobel, grandfather to Vincent, Isabeau, Olivia & Connor; stepchildren Dennis (Bernice), Debbie (Alex), Delphine, Barb (Tom) & Brenda (Clyde), grandchildren, great-grandchildren & great-great grandchildren; his three siblings Oliver (Bridget), Emily O’Kane (Enda) Edward (Teresa) and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by his parents Michael & Catherine, and siblings Eilis, John, Gerald, Michael and Paddy. Fondly known as “TV” in Kildysart, Ireland - his birthplace, but then as Tom in his Dublin student days, and on to Canada. Tom lived a full and interesting life pursuing his passions as a family physician, politician, traveller, pilot, farmer, hunter and outdoor enthusiast, and of course, as a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a great thinker and excelled at all he pursued. His attention to and memory for details, was impressive - little slipped by him. Often described as charismatic, a storyteller and a character, Tom left his unique mark with everyone, everywhere he went. The eldest of 9 children, he grew up on a farm, “Fort Hill” in Co. Clare, Ireland, and loved open spaces. So it’s no wonder he loved Canada, his chosen country, since he arrived on Labour Day in 1967 with his young family, including first wife, Anne, 3 boys and a baby girl on the way. He was incredibly proud to call himself Canadian. Visitation will be held at the Mangan Funeral Home, 332 Osborne St. Beaverton, on Wednesday June 22, 2022 from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, 2172 4th Conc. Rd. Brechin, on Thursday June 23, 2022 at 11A.M. Cremation to follow. If so desired memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated by the family. The family sends a special thank you to the North Simcoe Muskoka LHIN, ProResp (Stacey) for their care and support during recent weeks. The family also extends sincere gratitude to Mangan Funeral Home for their compassion and understanding during this difficult time. Online condolences are welcomed at manganfuneralhome.com
