June was knowledgeable, generous, and had a green thumb and these she shared extensively with her fellow congregants at the Church of St. Mary Magdalene. Her appreciation of children's literature is reflected in the hardbound copy of Tomie de Paola's picture book, "The Clown of God" that she gave to our firstborn. What a treasure that was! It was well used before it was consumed in the fire at Holy Family Church in Parkdale. It has been twice replaced since then. I would make a point of sharing this with my students every Christmas and very seldom was it that I did not choke with emotion. The last copy is now in the collection of our firstborn grandson. June's generosity came unhesitatingly though at times with a sense of resentment. It marred the beauty of the gift and undoubtedly was a source of suffering for her. Her legacy to St. Mary Magdalene was the annual erection of the Easter Garden. Here she applied the horticultural talents that she shared with the church school children. Her idea of using grass seed as a votive offering was brilliant. May God grant her the peace she lacked in this life.
