Obituary for Mary Isabella PARKE-TAYLOR (Bagshaw)

Passed away peacefully at The Briton House, Toronto on 16 February 2014 at the age of 93. Mary was the beloved wife of the late Geoffrey Howard Parke-Taylor for 63 years. Loved mother of Janet Bowyer and of Michael Parke-Taylor and his wife Barbara Butts. Lovingly remembered by grandson The Rev. Daniel Bowyer and his wife Sarah Franklin. Dear to her younger sisters Joyce Fish and Cecily Stone and their families and the late Marguerite Bagshaw. Born 3 April 1920 in Toronto, Mary Parke-Taylor was educated at Moulton College, Toronto and then at Victoria College at the University of Toronto. In 1956, she won Birks Prize in Canadian Handicrafts at the C.N.E. for her silver jewellery. She taught Home Economics at Crofton House School in Vancouver (1960-64) followed by 15 years at A.B. Lucas Secondary School in London, Ontario, where she also served as a consultant to the London Board of Education before her retirement in 1980. Throughout her married life, Mary played an important role in husband Geoffrey's parishes and as the Bishop's wife in the Dioceses of Huron and Toronto from 1976. We give thanks for the excellent care and love she received from The Briton House, Toronto where she resided since 2007. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Covenant House, The Salvation Army or The Primates World Relief and Development Fund would be appreciated and can be made through the Mangan Funeral Home, (705-426-577).
